Katherine (Mehan) Erwin

Katherine (Kate) Mehan Erwin, age 73, of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 28, 2023.

She grew up in Mechanicville, NY, daughter of the late Robert and Margaret (Kennedy) Mehan. In addition to raising her family, she worked various jobs throughout the course of her life, with time spent at the Delaware Museum of Natural History, the Hockessin Community News, and most recently as an administrator for Catholic Charities.

Along with spending time with her family, Kate enjoyed traveling, gardening, word puzzles, music; attending live theater with her friends; and she had a special place in her heart for her beloved dogs.

She is survived by her husband, Bernie; her children, Nick (Jill), Rachel (Jesse Sims), and Alexis (Bill Dunman); her granddaughter, Annie; her cousin, Mary Kennedy Balsam; as well as several cousins in New York that affectionately knew her as Honey.

Kate’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the staff at New Castle Health and Rehabilitation Center and with AccentCare Hospice, especially Sharon and Alicia, for their unwavering care and compassion.

A Memorial Service will be celebrated at 11:00am on Monday, November 6, 2023, at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE. Interment will be held privately in NY at a later date.
