Joyce Stone Gibson, age 92, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 6, 2021.
Joyce was born in Wilmington, DE to Fred and Lilian Pickford Stone. She resided in the beloved “Flats” and Sherwood Park neighborhood. Joyce was educated at Lore Elementary School and was a graduate of Wilmington High School. After graduation, Joyce worked for Hercules, Inc. in the Naval Stores Department.
She married the love of her life, Joseph F. Gibson, and together they raised five children. Joyce was a devoted wife and mother.
Joyce was a faithful long-term member of Calvary Episcopal Church, where she served on the Altar Guild. She was a member of Ingleside Auxiliary and volunteered in their gift shop. A member of St. Joseph on the Brandywine, she served as a Special Minister of the Eucharist at church and to the home bound and was in the offertory counting group.
Many family vacations were enjoyed in the Adirondacks. In later years, Joe and Joyce crossed the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans on cruises that had many ports of call and flying on the Concorde were pleasures greatly appreciated.
Joyce’s greatest joy was raising and caring for her family. She will be remembered for her kind, loving, gentle and patient spirit. Her family is most honored and blessed to have witnessed the devotion of love between herself and Joe and giving that gift to us. It is treasured.
Joyce was predeceased by her loving husband Joseph, her daughter-in-law Carol Gibson, her parents Fred and Lilian, and her sister Mary.
Loving and much loved and treasured by her family, Joyce is survived by five children and their families: her daughter Nancy and her three children Andrea, Daniel (Angela), and David (Colleen); three sons, Stephen and his two children, Matthew (Laura) and Crystal; Brian, his wife Margie; Michael, his wife Lori, and their three children, Jennifer (fiancé Brendan), Caitlin Sexton (Brad), and Sean; and her daughter, Laura. Joyce is also survived by four great-grandchildren: Claire and Grace Gibson; Caylee and Peyton Sexton.
Services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Thomas More Oratory, 45 Lovett Avenue, Newark, DE 19711.
We thank Joyce for her love and for giving it to us. Good night, God bless, dear Joyce.
