Joseph Hilger Obituary

Joseph J. Hilger, 85, of Newark, Delaware passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, June 20, 2026.  Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on May 20, 1941, he was the son of the late John and Bernice (Shondis) Hilger.

Joe was employed as a computer programmer with Boeing, Sun Oil Company, DuPont and lastly Accenture.  He enjoyed fishing and was an avid fan of the Philadelphia sports teams.  Joe was passionate about the 4th of July and could always be counted on for supplying an abundance of fireworks.  His greatest joy was his beloved grandchildren, with pictures of them in every room of his home.

Joe is survived by his children, John Hilger (Julia), Joseph Hilger, Carole Seibert (Al), James Hilger (Maria), Francis Hilger and Denise Kinney (Joe); his grandchildren, Bruddy “AJ” Seibert (Ally), Matthew Hilger (Kara), Jamie Rojas (Jesus), Vanessa Hilger, Trent Seibert, John Hilger, Lauren Hilger, Ryan Kinney and Megan Kinney; his sister, Madeline Caum and niece, Jessica.  Joe is also survived by his former wife and friend, Carole. 

Joe was predeceased by his brother, John Hilger.

Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Thursday, July 2 from 10:00 – 11:00AM, immediately followed by funeral services.
