Joseph A. Bruno passed away at Christiana Hospital on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at the age of 76. He was born in Wilmington, DE, son of the late Joseph A. and Mary R. (Ciconte) Bruno and was a 1963 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School. Shortly after, Joe enlisted in the United States Army and served 6 years of active duty. Upon his discharge, he worked in car sales in Delaware and Pennsylvania. Prior to his retirement he also worked for Sutton Bus & Truck.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his sister, Marie Beal and her husband, Wayne; his mother-in-law, Dorothy Maxwell; and brothers-in-law, Kenneth Maxwell and David Maxwell.

Joe will forever be remembered by his wife of 41 years, Carol; stepdaughter, Heather Apostolico (David); his grandchildren, Paige Apostolico and Brian Apostolico; sister-in-law, Beverly Newirth (Larry); brother-in-law, William Maxwell; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family would like to extend their appreciation for the care Joe received from the doctors, physician assistants, nurses, and respiratory therapist at the Medical ICU, 3rd floor, Christiana Hospital. Plus the care he received over the past 7 years from American Kidney Care-Hockessin and the Fresenius Kidney Care-Lantana, Hockessin, DE. The family also would like to thank Dr. Thomas Neef for the care he provided to Joe for many years. Lastly, special thanks for the friendship of Joe's English Creek neighbors and members of Saint James Episcopal Church.

A celebration of Joe's life will be held at 12:00pm on Wednesday May 4, 2022, at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808, where family and friends may visit beginning at 11:00am. Interment will be held at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at 1:00 pm. Attendees are advised to meet directly at the cemetery chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Joe's memory to American Renal Association-American Kidney Care-Hockessin, 5936 Limestone Road, #101, Hockessin, DE 19707 or to any other charity of your choice.
