John “Jack” W. Jarrell, age 81, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 17, 2020.
Born in Wilmington, DE, Jack was the son of the late G. Hazell and Irene (Magargal) Jarrell. He had attended Brown Vocational High School. Before retiring in 2004, Jack worked in heavy repair for General Motors for 42 years and was an avid UAW Union member. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, as well as a member of American Legion Post #28 in Oak Orchard.
Jack was a motorcycle enthusiast, who loved taking road trips with his wife, Joanne. They enjoyed their cross country road trip where they rode from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean. They also enjoyed biking to Niagara Falls and Texas. In earlier years, Jack loved to go dancing with his wife and loved Doowop music from the 1950’s.
Jack loved the water and the beach. Many family memories will be remembered from their many summers spent at their home at Treasure Beach. In recent years, Jack and Joanne enjoyed spending time at their river house on the Delaware River in Port Penn.
Jack will be remembered for his wise cracks. He was a hard worker and would do anything for anyone.
Jack was the beloved husband of 58 years, Joanne A. (Kehnast); dear Dad of Jeff, Jackie (Larry), Janice (Fred), and Joe (Rachel); loving Pops to John, Jeffrey, Shawn, Alayna, Phoenix and Raina. He was also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. Jack was predeceased by his parents, G. Hazell and Irene Jarrell and his sister, Betty Brustman.
Family and friends may visit from 11 AM to 1 PM on Thursday, October 22 at Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808, where a Time of Remembrance will begin at 1 PM. Interment will be private.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the 3D unit at Christiana Hospital for their compassionate care of Jack through his illness.
