John C. Smith (Captain), age 63, of Wilmington, Delaware passed away on February 21, 2021 with his wife and son by his side.
Born in Jersey City, NJ he was the son of the late John J. and Lorraine Smith. John was an avid sailor who even spent time living aboard. John could be heard playing the guitar whether he was anchored in a cove on the Chesapeake Bay, on the beach with his wife and family or camping as a proud Eagle Scout.
In 2010, John formed “The Acoustic Jam” and since then consistently gigged with his band mates throughout the tri-state area. (www.theacousticjam.com). John had many hobbies, including motorcycle riding, gardening, cooking and playing with his puppy, Sydney.
For the past 20+ years John was an IT professional for Christiana Care.
The family would like to thank the frontline healthcare workers who cared for John with extraordinary compassion and professionalism.
John is survived by his wife of 32 years, Kathy Kane Smith and their son, Tyler John Smith, brothers, Thomas and his wife, Donna and William Smith, brother-in-law, Russ Williams, nieces and nephews, TJ (Sherri), Kyla, Amanda (Pat), Alyse (Nick), Daniel and 7 great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents John was predeceased by his brother, Walter; his sister-in-law, Donna Williams and his parents-in-law, Richard Kane and Gertrude Procak.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 25th from 5-7 p.m. at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek. A service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, February 26th at 12:00 p.m. Burial will be in Lawncroft Cemetery, Linwood, PA.
Services for John will be conducted in accordance with current COVID-19 directives, which require mandatory face masks, social distancing and occupancy limits.
