John Thomas Ward Jr. ("Tom/J.T."), 73, passed away on Monday, September 8, 2025, surrounded by the love and presence of his family.
Born in Wilmington, Delaware to John T. and Justine Ward, Tom graduated from St. Elizabeth High School and became a successful entrepreneur, co-owning Chesapeake Building Services, Inc. with his wife.
A man of deep faith, Tom was an active member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. He mentored youth, served with the Knights of Columbus, and dedicated his time as a catechist in the religious education program. Most recently, he worked as a school facilities management consultant for Gateway Charter School in Wilmington.
Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Yolanda; his children, Lily, Tommy, Ann Marie, Andrew; and his 4 grandchildren, John and Colby Ward, and Jackson (J.D.) and Alani Maldonado. He is also survived by his siblings, Michael Ward (Joan), Patricia Ward (Gene, deceased), and Mary Jane Spenla (Bill), along with his loyal dog, Kairi. He was preceded in death by his parents, John T. and Justine Ward.
Tom was a proud Navy dad to his daughter, Lily. Always sharply dressed, he brought life to any gathering with his humor and personality. A great friend and neighbor, he was known for his ability to listen without judgment and accept everyone as they were. A diehard Eagles fan, he loved hosting and watching football games with his closest friends. Above all, he cherished his faith in God and the time spent with family and friends.
Visitation will be held at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 2503 Centerville Road, Wilmington on Monday, September 22, 2025, at 10:30AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30AM. Interment will take place at All Saints Cemetery in Wilmington, DE, immediately following the Mass.
