John A. Petrarca, 85, of Landenberg, Pennsylvania, passed away in the comfort of his home on Friday, September 24, 2021. Born in Philadelphia on March 30, 1936, he was oldest of three sons of the late John and Gilda (Ippolito) Petrarca.
John was a graduate of South Catholic High School and was employed with the Federal Government, South Philadelphia office of the Department of Defense. He retired as a systems analyst after more than 30 years of dedicated service. A devoted member of St. Mary of the Assumption Parish, John enjoyed painting, listening to classical music, and participated in various church choirs through the years. He loved children and, most recently, enjoyed doting on his beloved great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Ronald and Richard Petrarca.
John is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marcella (McGowan) Petrarca; his daughter, Marcella Gregory and husband, Victor L. Gregory; his grandchildren, Caitlin Gregory and husband, Michael Overman, Brigid Trites and husband, Andrew Trites, Margaret Gregory, Victor Gregory; his great grandchildren, Danny and Charlotte Overman, Joan Trites.
Family and friends are invited to visit at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin on Thursday, September 30 from 9:30-10:15AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30AM, with interment in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 3301 Chelteham Avenue, Philadelphia at 1:30PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of John may be made to St. Mary of the Assumption Parish.
