John Joseph Morris, age 80, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 26, 2020.
He was born in Wilmington, son of the late Walter and Alice (Touhey) Morris. John grew up in the Forty Acres neighborhood of Wilmington, graduating from St. Ann’s School and Salesianum, Class of 1957. Shortly after graduating, John served honorably in the US Army. Upon his discharge, he began a 33-year career with the Local 19 Sheet Metal Workers, retiring in 1998.
John was an avid reader and enjoyed weightlifting and working out. He also enjoyed spending time at the beach, boating and fishing and traveling with his wife, especially on cruises.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Joan (Chmura) Morris; his children, Kevin (Wendy), Christopher (Patch), and Andrew; his grandchildren, Bronwyn and Conall; and his siblings, Barbara Jamison and Walter Morris (Peggy).
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his sister, June Campbell.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Monday, February 10, 2020 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 301 N. Bancroft Parkway, Wilmington, DE 19805, where family and friends may visit beginning at 10:00am. Interment will be held in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
