John F. Bachmeyer, 75, of Wilmington, Delaware peacefully passed away in the comfort of his home on Monday, August 31, 2020 surrounded by his loved ones.
John was born in Wilmington on May 10, 1945, son of the late Leonard and Frances (Berg) Bachmeyer Shultz Moore, and was also predeceased by step-fathers, Edward Shultz and Clifford Moore. A graduate of Conrad High School, class of 1963, he served in the Delaware National Guard and began his working career with the Chrysler Corporation Newark Assembly Plant. Following his employment with Chrysler, John joined the maintenance department as a long time painter for the Wilmington Housing Authority, and lastly worked as a driver for Seasons Pizza.
John loved his massive Oldies record collection and loved to listen to his many 45s. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed long hikes along Skyline Drive and through West Virginia. He, his wife, Marci, and their daughter, Laura along with nieces, Robyn and Mary Frances, enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. He was a proud and patriotic Republican American.
John is survived by his wife of more than 40 years, Marcella McGonigle Bachmeyer; his daughter, Laura Elizabeth Bachmeyer and her life partner, Justin Hilbert; brothers-in-law, Pat, Billy and Brian McGonigle; sister-in-law, Joan Evans; nieces, Robyn McGonigle and Mary Frances Evans; many close family, friends and his fur babies, Buster and (grandson) Baelfire.
He was predeceased by an infant brother, Allen Bachmeyer.
Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Friday, September 4 from 9:30-11:00AM. Funeral services will begin at 11:00AM, immediately followed by interment in Gracelawn Memorial Park.
John enjoyed being casual and comfortable. To honor him, please wear casual attire and come as you are!
