John Joseph Adams, affectionately known as "Big John," passed away peacefully on February 18, 2025, in Wilmington, DE, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in the Bronx, New York, John spent his early years there before living in Paterson, NJ, and later settling in Wilmington, DE. He dedicated his career to the DuPont Company and found his greatest joy in his family and the time they spent together by the ocean. Whether fishing, enjoying the outdoors, or simply being near the water, he was happiest when surrounded by his loved ones in nature’s beauty.
John was the beloved son of Joseph Adams and Julia (Augustis ) Adams. He was a cherished brother to Janet Kovach, Jill Devine, and June Brick. He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Anastasia Adams, with whom he shared a deep and lasting love.
A devoted father, John leaves behind his daughters, Alethea Avatara, Alyssa Adams, and Anna Shannon. He was a proud grandfather to Devon Arcieri, Peyton Arcieri, Braden Avatara, Rowan Avatara, Atticus Edmondson Adams, Annika Edmondson Adams, River Shannon, and Jax Shannon. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren, Mason and Palomi.
John’s family will hold a Celebration of Life during the summer months, when all of his loved ones can gather to honor his memory and share in the stories of a life well lived.
His warmth, humor, adventurous spirit, and deep love for his family will be forever cherished.
