Joanne Knox

Joanne Knox, age 88 of Wilmington passed away peacefully at her residence on November 17th, 2021.

Born on August 29th, 1933 in Wilmington to the late Francis X. and Mildred M. McHugh (nee Walker), Joanne was a lifelong Delawarean and 1951 graduate of Wilmington High School.  Joanne was a passionate Philadelphia sports fan and could be found watching many Phillies or Flyers games.  Joanne and her late husband could also be found playing bingo, enjoying country western music or tending to and being with their family whom they loved very much.  Joanne’s greatest accomplishment in life was being a homemaker and tending to and caring for her Children and Grandchildren.

In addition to her parents Joanne is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years William T. Knox Sr; Son Robert Knox and Sisters Jean Bell, Janet Patterson and Mary Farrall. 

Joanne is survived by her Children William Knox, Daniel Knox (Shirley), John Knox, Marybeth Russell (Paul), Anne Marie Guajardo (Ed) and Donna Jean Powell (Joe); Daughter-in-law Charlotte Knox Grandchildren Christine Collins (Kevin), Andrew Knox (Andi), Kate Shanahan (Bart), Shawn Russell (Amanda), Kevin Knox (Kaitlin), Danielle June (Mike) and Eddie Guajardo; Great Grandchildren Julian and Cara Shanahan, Teddy, Courtney and Elaina Russell, Patrick Knox, Liam, Maggie and Isabel Collins, Emilia June and Lily Knox; Brother Frank McHugh; Sister Judy McHugh; Brother-in-Law Ken Farrall and many nieces and nephews. 

As much as it hurts right now, we can be grateful our mother departed this life on her own terms, at home asleep in her warm bed, hours after eating pretzels and chocolate ice cream.  We Love You Mom.

The family will accept friends and guests on Wednesday December 8th, 2021 from 10:00-11:30am at the Doherty Funeral Home located at 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington where a funeral service will begin at 11:30.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made in Joanne’s honor to the Tri-State Bird Rescue or the Delaware Humane Society.
