Janice Yvonne King (Thorpe), aged 77, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 8, 2025 in the presence of family. Janice was preceded in death by her husband, James King; her parents, Martin and Sarah (Emerson) Thorpe; brothers, William Thorpe, Harold Thorpe, Lewis Thorpe Sr., and Donald Thorpe; and sisters, Dorothy Thorpe and Sara Rose.
Janice is survived by her brother, Robert Thorpe of New Castle; her sisters, Peggy Hall of Rehoboth and Geraldine Nowacin of Middletown; and many nieces and nephews.
Born on October 9, 1947, in Wilmington, Delaware, Janice or “Jackie” as she was affectionately known by family and friends, was a graduate of Wilmington High School. Janice worked many years for the One Hour Cleaners on 4th and Market in Wilmington, and the Christina School District, where she was known by “Miss Jackie” or “Aunt Jackie” by many of the students who adored her.
Janice was an avid music lover, especially Motown and her favorite, Elvis Presley. Janice loved to sing and dance to her favorite songs, but most of all she love spending time with family and friends. She will be remembered as a loving wife, daughter, sister, aunt, great-aunt, great-great aunt and friend. Janice was kind hearted, caring and giving person and was always willing to help anyone in need. Janice was an animal lover, who adored her many pets through the years, especially her dogs. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, June 20th, 2025 from 4PM-6:30PM at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808, where a funeral service will begin at 6:30PM. Entombment will be private.
