Jane (Plaisted) Bernard Hanson passed away peacefully on Monday, March 3, 2025 in Wilmington, Delaware. Born on January 17, 1948 to Harold and Elizabeth Plaisted, she was predeceased by her siblings, Julian and Polly, and her husband, Bob Hanson. She is survived by her sons, Robert Jr. (Amy) and Christopher Sr., and her cherished grandchildren, Chris Jr., John, Louis, and Georgiana. The family is especially grateful to the staff at Gilpin Hall, including Doris, Brooklyn, and Jay for their exceptional care.
Jane graduated from Wilmington High School, studied ballet at Boston Conservatory, and later earned degrees from LaSalle and St. John's University. She lived and worked in Milford, Seaford, Wilmington, and New Ulm, Minnesota. She dedicated most of her professional life to the Catholic Church and had a passion for classical music, rescue dogs, art, needlepoint, and weekly conversations with the Women's Group.
Above all, Jane loved being a grandmother. "Grammie" moved back to Wilmington in 2002 to be near Buddy, her first. Easily, her favorite day of the year was Grandparents' Day at The Tatnall School. She poured her creativity into projects like birthday treasure hunts, legendary forts for sleepovers (most notably, Atlantis), and pounding out Grammie Chicken with an oversized sledgehammer. Whether catching footballs in the dirt, or wrestling on the floor, Grammie was always present, her joy and trademark positivity leaving a lasting mark.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Church, 10 Old Church Road, Greenville, Delaware on Tuesday, April 1 at 1:30PM, followed by interment at Lower Brandywine Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 101 Old Kennett Road, Wilmington, Delaware.
