James Michael Ross

On May 14, 2023, James (Jimmy) Michael Ross of Wilmington, DE, passed away surrounded by his devoted wife and daughters. He was 79 years old and died of congestive heart failure.

Jimmy was born on January 10, 1944 to Harry and Alice Ross, of Penns Grove, NJ. At the age of 12, the family moved to Wilmington, DE. There, Jimmy went on to meet the girl who would become his wife and best friend, Barbara Anne Wallace.  Jimmy went on to attend Salesianum School, where he learned many life lessons and made several lifelong friendships.

Barbara and Jimmy married in 1967 and created a meaningful life that centered on family. Their marriage was an unprecedented story of love, commitment, and respect. It was the type of marriage that made you believe in true and everlasting love. Jimmy loved sports, especially football, in all its forms – playing, coaching, or watching on TV, particularly Notre Dame. He was a faithful member of St. John the Beloved Church for 68 years and worked for DuPont for 44 years.

Jimmy is survived by his wife of 55 years, Barbara; his daughters, Jennifer Gaalswyk (Tim), Alice Ross-Biddle (Brent) and Rebecca Lazorick (Joe); his 7 granddaughters, Alice, Katherine, Nora, Annie, Olivia, Jamie and Eloise; and his sister, Marianne.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Alice; and his brother, Thomas.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Monday, May 22, 2023, at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington, DE 19808, where family and friends may visit beginning at 10:00am. Interment will be private.
