James C. Quinn passed away on October 16, 2021 in Saint Francis Hospital while surrounded by his family, the same hospital where he was born on May 19, 1938. James was the fourth of 15 children of John and Catherine (Riley) Quinn. He was raised in Holly Oak and was a graduate of Salesianum School. James served in the U.S. Navy. He returned to Wilmington and married Marjorie Parker. They had four daughters. Marjorie preceded James in death in 1983.
After James returned to Wilmington, he soon began to work at Metropolitan Life. Later, he operated his own insurance business for many years. James owned a 7-Eleven franchise for 12 years in Salem, New Jersey. In 2000, he started working for the U.S. Census Bureau as a field representative.
In 1994, James married Cynthia Simpkins at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church. They enjoyed golfing, going on drives and finding new restaurants. He relished hearing about the lives of his children and grandchildren.
Despite health challenges, James always maintained a positive outlook. He credited his doctors at Penn Medicine as miracle workers who helped him to thrive.
James will be missed by his wife Cindy; his daughters Michelle Quinn (Michael Levy), Catherine Fitzharris (Brian), Sandra Tippett (Bob), Deborah Manning (Mark); and his grandchildren Nico Quinn, Natalia Levy, Jessica and Jack Fitzharris, Bobby, Madalyn and Will Tippett, Erin and Nathan Manning and his great granddaughter Emma. He is also survived by his siblings J. Timothy, Mary Ellen Brown, Sister Roseann Quinn, SSJ, Michael, Cathy Hazzard, Kevin, Dennis, Regina Igo, Philip, Sean and Anne Vanneman.
