James P. Palandrani

James “Polly” Palandrani, age 93, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away peacefully at his residence on December 20, 2025.

Born and raised in Wilmington, James attended Wilmington High School where he was a standout athlete. He lettered in football, basketball, and track & field, setting a state record in the high jump. After completing high school, James joined the Air Force and proudly served his country for 4 years.  Following the Air Force, James worked as a journeyman for Sheet Metal Worker's Union Local #59 and Local #19 until his retirement.

James’s passion for sports led him to coach young athletes. He coached football for the Conrad Apaches and Corpus Christi CYO, and baseball for Capital Trail Little League and Millcreek Babe Ruth. Through his coaching he taught not only the fundamentals of the game but also the values of teamwork.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Virginia (Miller) Palandrani and his son-in-law (William McLaughlin). He is survived by his children: Carol Boone (Mark), Patricia Palandrani, Paul Palandrani (Terri), and Diane Chalfant; his four grandsons, Gregory Palandrani, Dominic Palandrani, James Palandrani, Justin Chalfant; seven great-grandchildren, Sabela Palandrani, Parke Palandrani, Luca Palandrani, Nolan Palandrani, Rowan Palandrani, Cooper Palandrani, Lena Palandrani; and his companion, Catherine Jackson.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date and the interment for James will be private.
