James(Jim) Turner, age 72, of Newark, DE passed away peacefully on Sunday October 22nd, 2023. He was born on February 2nd, 1951, in Wilmington DE to his parents James Marvin Turner and Lola Francis (Craig) Turner. Jim will be dearly missed by Gale Turner, his wife of 43 years, his daughters Christina Toth and Kimberly Leigh, his son Steven Turner, and his grandchildren Elliot, Sienna, Clara and Oliver.
His friends and family fondly remember Jim’s calm and steady demeanor. He was a patient man who rarely took the spotlight, and often took in the world around him by attentively listening and watching. Though some may call him quiet, those who knew him best would say that he chose his words, and moments to speak, wisely. If you were very lucky you might be blessed to be on the receiving end of a deep conversation on a topic that Jim was passionate about, or a witty joke that you didn’t see coming, but would leave you laughing out loud in surprise.
Jim will always be remembered by his family as giving great hugs. He was a loving husband who enjoyed many adventures with his wife like traveling, cruises and even skydiving. They also passionately worked together to make their house and backyard a home as unique and loving as them. He was a wonderful dad who took care of his children by encouraging them in their interests and careers, and teaching them to plan and prepare for the future. His grandchildren enjoy their memories of swimming in the pool, playing at the beach, reading, and feeding the fish with their grandad. He was a kind friend who enjoyed walks in the park with his friend John.
He enjoyed the turtles and fish in the backyard pond that he created and he could often be observed finding new ways to keep them safe and happy, like helping them to hibernate over winter in the refrigerator. All of his children fondly remember watching the Star Trek series and movies with him. He enjoyed music, the ocean and history. He was often seen wearing his signature plain baseball cap, of which he had many in various shades of blue, beige and green.
