Jack S. Sanderson Sr., 90, of Wilmington, Delaware peacefully passed away surrounded by loved ones on Tuesday, July 8, 2025. Born in Wilmington on October 10, 1934, he was a son of the late Willard and Reba (Stroup) Sanderson.
Jack was a graduate of Wilmington High School, class of 1952, and established his own television repair business. Upon retiring from his business, Jack embarked on a career in real estate, first with B. Gary Scott Realtors in 1979, and eventually joining Patterson-Schwartz in 1992, from where he retired in 2014.
Jack was a longtime member of Hockessin United Methodist Church and the Wilmington Turners Club (presently American Turners of Delaware). An avid golfer, he also enjoyed spending time at his home on the Elk River, boating and pitching horseshoes. Outgoing and fun loving, Jack was always the life of the party and enjoyed serving as emcee at various events. In earlier years, he served as a coach with his son’s little league sports teams. His greatest joy was spending time with his beloved family.
Jack will be dearly missed by his wife of 68 years, Virginia “Ginny” (Andress) Sanderson; his children, Nancy Baker (Tim), Jane Tilghman (Kit), Jill Joos (Keith), Judy Moerman (Jim) and Jack Sanderson Jr.; his 11 grandchildren, Colleen (Matt), Scott (Catherine), Allison (Anley), Andy, Tyler (Jackie), Ginny, Cassie (Josh), James (Nikki), Joseph, Morgan and Jack III; and his 9 great grandchildren.
Jack was predeceased by his brothers, Sher, Richard and William Sanderson and his twin brother, Gerald Sanderson.
Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Friday, July 18 from 9:30 – 11:00AM, with funeral services immediately following. Entombment will be held privately.
