Irene Rose (Yuskanish) Huegel

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our mother, Irene Rose Huegel.  She passed away peacefully on March 8, 2023, with her loving family at her side.

Renie, as she was called, was born on April 4, 1937, in Lansford, Pennsylvania.  She was the daughter of the late John and Sarah Yuskanish.  She was raised with a large, close-knit extended family.  Renie graduated from Lansford High School in 1955, where she participated in many school activities and dancing was her passion.  Two years after graduation, Renie relocated to Newark, Delaware, where she made her home and raised her family.  She lived in the same house for 62 years and was surrounded by wonderful neighbors.  Renie worked for Avon Products in Newark for 23 years, retiring in 1999. The Avon girls were very special to her.  They became life-long friends and met regularly for lunches and social gatherings long after retirement.

Nothing was more important to Renie than her family.  She was a devoted mother to her three children.  She adored them and worked tirelessly to provide for them and give them the very best upbringing.  Her eight grandchildren were the light of her life and one of her greatest joys.  She was so proud of each of them and their every accomplishment.

Renie will be remembered for her kindness and, above all, her generosity.  She enjoyed puzzles, playing scrabble, and visiting Delaware Park to play the slots.  She was a huge sports fan and loved cheering on her Philadelphia teams.  She traveled often to Oklahoma to visit family and enjoyed time away in Fenwick Island. 

Irene was preceded in death by her parents, John and Sarah; and her sister, Janice Gieniec.  She is survived by her devoted children: son, Donald Huegel, Jr. and his wife Jacie of Middletown, Delaware, her daughter, Linda Negley and her husband Scott of Edmond, Oklahoma, and her son, David and his wife Christine of Middletown, Delaware.  In addition, she is survived by her grandchildren, Morgan, Jenna, Jonathan, Andrew, Katie, Donald, David and Stephen; and her six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, James Gieniec and all those who loved her.

A funeral service will be celebrated at 12pm on Friday, March 17, 2023, at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808, where family and friends may visit beginning at 11:00am. Interment will be held privately.
