Irene C. Druss, 97, passed away on June 5, 2026 surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Lansford, PA, Irene was the daughter of the late George and Susan (Junas) Gazo. She lived a long and meaningful life centered on faith and family. Her warmth, kindness and gentle spirit touched the lives of all who knew her. Throughout her life, Irene was devoted to her family and found great joy in caring for those she loved. She will always be remembered for her many talents as seamstress, baker and exceptional cook. Her famous chocolates, cakes, pierogi and chicken fingers will be missed by many. Irene had a flare for fashion and was a woman of exquisite taste, she was often referred to as “Fancy Lady”. Her legacy is one of unyielding kindness and generosity. The love and guidance she showed will continue to live on in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known her.
Survived by her sons, David Druss of Newark, DE and James Druss and his wife, Susan of Middletown, DE; her brother, Joseph Gazo and his wife Mirella of Manville, NJ; Daughter-in-law, Nancy Druss of Wilmington, DE; seven grandchildren, Savannah Druss, Alexis Druss, Mark Druss, Justin Druss, Nathan Meginniss, John Michael Druss and Jennifer Druss; and two great grandchildren, Nora Druss and Colter Meginniss.
In addition to her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward Druss; her sons, Gary and Raymond Druss; her daughter, Maureen Druss; brothers, John, George, Robert and Michael Gazo; and sister, Elizabeth Orsulak.
Although she will be deeply missed, Irene leaves behind a legacy of love, perseverance and cherished memories that will endure for generations.
Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808 on Monday, June 15, 2026, from 10:00am - 11:30am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00pm at Holy Angels Church, 82, Possum Park Road, Newark, DE 19711, with interment to follow in All Saints Cemetery.
