Ian Douglas Densmore, age 51, of Elkton, MD—formerly of Wilmington and Newark—passed away peacefully on Monday, September 8, 2025, at Christiana Hospital, surrounded by loving family and friends.
Born in Delaware, Ian was a 1992 graduate of Avon Grove High School and went on to earn his degree from the University of Delaware in 1996. He worked for many years as a dedicated paralegal in Wilmington, where his commitment to justice earned him the respect of colleagues and clients alike.
Ian’s life was marked by curiosity, creativity, and compassion. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout through the Boy Scouts of America, a reflection of his leadership, perseverance, and lifelong love of the outdoors. His interests were wide-ranging—he enjoyed camping, traveling, reading, and was especially passionate about history, with a particular fascination for the Civil War era.
A proud and active member of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), Ian found great joy in historical reenactment, medieval studies, and community. He was also an avid fan of tabletop gaming, science fiction—particularly Star Wars—and loved nothing more than sharing these passions with those close to him. Perhaps nothing brought Ian more quiet joy, though, than the companionship of his cats. He was a devoted animal lover, and his beloved black cat, Patrick, who predeceased him, held a special place in his heart.
Ian is survived by his beloved wife, Jessica Martin of Elkton, MD; his mother, Ann Metzger Densmore of Wilmington, DE; his father, H. Thomas Densmore (Betty Snyder) of Wilmington, DE; his brother, James A. Densmore (Heather) of Davidson, NC; and his cherished nephews, Ryan and William Densmore of Davidson, NC. He will also be deeply missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, and a wide circle of friends.
A memorial service celebrating Ian’s life will be held on Friday, September 26, 2025, beginning at 2:00 PM at Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808. All who knew and loved Ian are warmly invited to attend.
