Harold Russell Harrington of Hockessin, Delaware passed away peacefully at home on March 27, 2021. He was born on August 5, 1934 in Wilmington (Prices Corner), Delaware to Earl and Ethel Greenwood Harrington. He was the last surviving sibling of Elizabeth Elliott, James, Raymond, and Florence Richards.
Harold married Marjorie Ann Robinson in 1955. They had 65 years together. In addition to his wife Marjorie, he is survived by two children, Scott Harrington and daughter-in-law Robin Harrington, Penny Denney and son-in-law George Denney, and two grandchildren Zeke Harrington and Ruby Harrington.
He enlisted in the United States Marines in 1955. Upon leaving military service, Harold returned to Delaware, and together with his wife started Harold’s Brake Service, an automotive repair and towing business, which is continuing at 50+ years strong.
Like his father and two brothers, he was a lifetime member of the Cranston Heights Fire Company. Harold also spent time with the Marine Corps League dedicated to caring for military veterans, Marine Toys for Tots, and other charity work. In his spare time, he collected vintage Delaware postcards and antique duck decoys from the Eastern Shore.
Harold doted on his two grandchildren, touring across the United States with them several summers as they grew up, and later happy to have them move to Delaware. They visited him often as he declined in health, boosting his spirits with their presence.
A true Delawarean, except for his military service, Harold never lived further than 5 miles from the house in Prices Corner where he was born.
Showing a winning smile and a teasing remark, but gruff when confronted, Harold Harrington always extended a helping hand to his many friends. To all of those who visited and called him in his last days, the family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks.
