Harold Frank Giacomini, 91, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away on Good Friday, April 3, 2026.
Born in 1934 in Enyon, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, Harold was the youngest of 12 children. At 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a Ham radio operator during the Korean War.
Following his service, he used the GI Bill to attend Bloomsburg State College, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education in just three years. He later achieved a Master’s degree in Psychology from Temple University.
Harold dedicated his career to the public school systems of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. He served as an audiologist, speech therapist, and school psychologist, eventually retiring as the Director of Special Needs Children for the Christina School District. He also worked part-time as a realtor, insurance agent, and tax preparer, and spent his summers tutoring children with special needs.
A devout Catholic, Harold was a member of the St. John/Holy Angels and St. Catherine of Siena parishes. He was fluent in Spanish and deeply committed to the Hispanic Ministry. As a member of the Knights of Columbus, he was recognized as Knight of the Year multiple times for his extensive charitable work. He was also fluent in Italian, teaching at Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.
Harold was predeceased by his wife, Kathleen, in 2022. In their 29 years together, they shared a love of Siamese cats, playing bridge, ballroom dancing, cruises to the Caribbean, and trips to Europe, most notably Italy three times.
He is survived by his children, Harold Giacomini Jr of Sevierville, Tennessee; Bonnie Ballinghoff of Haddon Heights, New Jersey; Annmarie Giacomini of Wilmington, Delaware; Joel Giacomini of New Castle, Delaware; James Donlon of Clifton, Virginia; Thomas Donlon of Newark, Delaware; eleven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, April 14th, 2026 from 10AM-11AM at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 82 Possum Park Rd., Newark, DE 19711, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM. Interment will be held privately at a later date in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.
