Gloria J. (Zambanini) Farrell, 81, went onto her final resting place on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 surrounded by her family. She was born, raised and lived her entire life in Wilmington, Delaware.
Gloria attended St. Paul’s School and was a member of the first graduating class of Padua Academy. Growing up on Lancaster Avenue, she was the third of four sisters, all of whom survive her: Joanne Donohue (Romie, deceased), Carol Chickadel (Sam) and Chookie Hurley (Dick). Also surviving is Gloria’s dearest cousin, Joanne Ferrante.
Gloria’s parents, Emmanuel and Josephine, created a loving home where family was the center of their lives. She continued this family centered life when she married her husband, Ken Farrell, in 1962. They enjoyed 59 years together. Gloria was a proud stay-at-home mom and devoted her life to raising her three sons, Tom (Michelle), Kenny, who sadly predeceased her in 2020, and Vinnie (Melissa). Gloria’s years as a grandmother were some of her happiest. She adored all eight of her grandchildren: Chris, Alison, Emma, Melanie, Angela, Michael, Dylan and Nora.
You could always count on Gloria to be on your side in any situation and for a good cup of coffee (even if you didn’t want it).
Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Wednesday, May 25 from 9:30 – 11:00AM. A Catholic funeral service will begin at 11:00AM, immediately followed by entombment in Cathedral Cemetery. In the interest of everyone’s health and safety, the family respectfully requires that all in attendance wear masks.
In honor of the school where Gloria and Ken sent their three sons and where two grandchildren attend(ed), donations in memory of Gloria may be made to St. Anthony of Padua Grade School. Donations may be made electronically at https://www.osvhub.com/sapde/giving/funds/grade-school or by mail at 1715 W. 9th Street, Wilmington, DE 19805.
