Gertrude Elizabeth Dixon, lovingly known as Trudy, age 85, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 30, 2020 with her loving family by her side.
Born in Wilmington, DE, Trudy was the daughter of the late Walter and Elizabeth (Cully) Moore. She graduated from A.I. DuPont High School. Before retiring, Trudy worked at Delmarva Power and Light as a billing clerk for over 25 years.
Family was the center of Trudy's life and her family thought the world of her. She enjoyed cooking and hosting the holidays, so she could have everyone together. Trudy also enjoyed roaming through thrift stores and shopping with her daughters.
Trudy was an avid gardener dedicated to tending to her beautiful flowers on her deck. In her leisure time, she enjoyed playing Hand and Foot with her card club of close friends. She was an avid reader of Danielle Steel novels and enjoyed watching CNN. Trudy also treasured her extensive doll collection that she proudly displayed.
In earlier years, Trudy was a “snowbird”, who enjoyed spending time at her vacation home in Englewood, FL, as well as going on cruises. She also spent time playing the slots at the casino in Harrington.
Trudy was predeceased by her husband, Raymond J. Dixon, Sr.; her son, Raymond J. Dixon, Jr.; her parents; her brothers, William Moore and George Moore; and her sisters, Agnes DeVore, Shirley Cook, and Nancy Taylor. She is survived by her daughters, Michelle Walker and Brenda Dixon; her daughter-in-law, Susan K. Dixon; her seven grandchildren, Elizabeth Dixon, Kimberly Carroll, Samantha Dixon (John), Joseph Mattero, Kerri Welcher (Zachary), Laura Walker, and Sandi Carroll (Matthew) and eight great grandchildren. Trudy is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Betty Dixon, Dorothy Moore and Garrie Dixon; her brother-in-law, Newell Taylor; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may visit from 1:30 to 3:00 PM on Wednesday, February 5 at Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808, where a Celebration of Trudy's Life will begin at 3:00 PM. Interment will be private.
