George Andrew Daly

George Andrew "Bumpa" Daly, 83, passed away on March 26, 2025, in Wilmington, Delaware.

Born on April 14, 1941, in Norwich, New York, George spent his formative years in Cooperstown, where he graduated from Cooperstown High School and developed a lifelong love for baseball. Playing on the historic Doubleday Field with many lifelong friends cemented his passion for the sport. Throughout his life, he remained deeply involved in athletics—whether playing himself or coaching and cheering from the sidelines. His greatest joy came from supporting youth sports, especially when it involved his son and, more recently, his grandchildren.

George proudly served his country in the United States Army, stationed in Germany. During his service, he made lifelong friends and developed a deep sense of camaraderie and discipline that carried through to all aspects of his life.

Beyond sports and service, George was celebrated for his warm and generous spirit. He had a remarkable gift for storytelling, delighting in sharing tales that some might call "tall," but all would agree were endlessly entertaining, especially when enjoyed over a pint or two. His infectious and distinctive belly laugh could light up any room, particularly when he was in the midst of one of his legendary stories. George was always ready with one of his famous hugs, offering comfort to anyone who needed it. In quieter moments, he found solace in reading and completing puzzles.

George is survived by his ex-wife, Gail Goddard Daly; his son, Jeffrey Michael Daly; daughter-in-law, Michele Tigue Daly; granddaughter, Lauren Elisabeth Daly; grandson, Joshua Cooper Daly; and his sister, Mary Clare Visker. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will cherish his memory.

He was predeceased by his parents, Clarence and Margaret Elizabeth Daly; his brothers, Richard and John Daly; and his sister, Carol Krobetsky.

George’s legacy lives on through the countless stories and cherished memories shared by those who knew him. May his memory continue to bring joy, and may his spirit remain ever-present in the hearts of his loved ones.

A celebration of life in his honor will be held at a later date.
