George Edward Allen Jr. of Newark, DE passed away on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 after a brief illness with his daughters by his side. Born in Downingtown, PA on November 20, 1949, George was the youngest child of the late George Sr. and Helen Allen.

George attended Mount Pleasant High School and was a graduate of Wilmington College. Following college, George was drafted into the United States Army and stationed at Fort Bragg. Although he was never deployed overseas, he was ready and willing to fight for our country if the need arose. Following George’s service in the Army, he began his career at DuPont as an Archivist, a job he took great pride in.

In the mid 1980s, George met, fell in love and ultimately married the love of his life, Jackie, on February 7, 1986. In the years to come, George would become a “girl dad” to three head strong daughters and quickly became the lone man in a house full of women. He often made the joke that because he lived with four women, he learned in life to just do what he was told. Although George often joked about the lack of male presence in the house, he truly cherished his daughters and reminded them often that the days they were born were the absolute best days of his life. George thoroughly enjoyed coaching his girls’ softball teams growing up and was always their number one cheerleader.

George was an avid University of Delaware football fan and a season ticket holder for more than 30 years. He even received “Fan of the Year” award in 2015. George also enjoyed family vacations on Lake Dunmore in Vermont, spending quality time with his daughters and grandkids, and weekends away in New England with Jackie. He also spent much of his adult life devoted to the LDS church where he met many lifelong friends, including Dan and Melissa Vincent, among many others. George’s infectious smile and larger than life personality will be missed by all those who knew him.

He is predeceased by his parents, George Sr. and Helen Allen; his loving wife of 30 years, Jackie; his sister, George Ann Hillis. He is survived by his loving daughters, Amy Witkowski (Robert Jr.), Katie DiCampli (Kevin Shortlidge), and Emily Allen; his grandchildren, Ethan and Michael Witkowski, Avery DiCampli, Alexander Shortlidge, and Aubrey Allen; his sister, Charlene Robinson (Paul) along with countless nieces and nephews who he all loved very much.
