Frederick “Fred” Cash, 94, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 21, 2025. Born on June 8, 1931 in Madison, Wisconsin, Fred lived a life of service, intellect, and devotion to family and community.
Fred graduated from Joplin High School in Joplin, Missouri, and earned an electrical engineering degree from the University of Missouri after attending Rice University. He served honorably in the U.S. Air Force through ROTC, achieving the rank of Captain until 1955. His distinguished career with E.I. DuPont de Nemours in Wilmington spanned over three decades in the Engineered Plastics Division, including a formative assignment in Japan from 1971 to 1973 that enriched his global perspective. He retired in 1989 as Sales Manager for Latin America.
A passionate educator, Fred taught Spanish, Portuguese, and Financial Investments at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Delaware, sharing his love for languages and business. He was an active member of St. John’s Lodge No. 2 in Wilmington, embodying fellowship and service. Fred’s warm spirit and intellectual curiosity touched all who knew him.
Fred is survived by his sons, Rick Cash (Dani), Tim Cash (Carolina), Laurent Cash (Michelle), and Jason Cash (Abby), as well as six grandchildren: Ian, Patrick, Hannah, Sam, William, and Daniel, and two great-grandchildren: Emery and Miles. He was predeceased by his first wife, Georgia Lillie (m. 1954), his second wife, Marjorie DiCriscia (m. 1970), and his parents, Robert Owen Cash and Lillian Beth Cash.
A funeral service and military honors will be held at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 2465 Chesapeake City Rd, Bear, DE 19701 on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 at 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested in memory of Fred to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Avenue, Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601 (www.alz.org). Fred’s legacy of service, learning, and love will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
