Francis G. Matarese

Francis G. Matarese, 83, of Wilmington, Delaware passed away surrounded by loving family on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.  Born in Wilmington on November 17, 1941, he was the son of the late Joseph and Marguerite (McLaughlin) Matarese.

Frank was a graduate of Salesianum School and served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1960 – 1965.  He worked as an electrician with Local 313, having retired after 37 years of dedicated service.  Following his retirement, Frank kept active by delivering parts for NAPA Auto and working as a crossing guard with New Castle County. 

An avid bowler, Frank enjoyed participating in the Friday night mixed league at Price Lanes.  He also enjoyed time at the beach, where he fished regularly, and was a talented dancer.  In earlier years, Frank served as a baseball coach with Newark Little League.

Frank is survived by his children, Frankie Matarese (Ellie), Tracey Damiani (Jimmy) and Deana Gravenor (Tommy); his grandchildren, Mikey (Julia), Vinnie (Becca), Hannah, Vickie (Sean), Gage and Ava; his great grandson, Elliott, along with two expected soon; his fiancée, Anne Wheeler; his brother, Joseph Matarese; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Frank was predeceased by his brothers, George and James Matarese; his sisters, Rosemary Dougherty, Kathleen Hayes, Janet DeGregory and Theresa Longobardi.

Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Wednesday, February 12 from 10:00 – 11:00AM, with funeral services immediately following.
