Florence Yezek Obituary

Florence C Yezek, 82, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away at home on Thursday, April 10, 2025.  She was born on November 5, 1942 in Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania to the late John Paul and Florence M Brzezinski (Jezewski).

After graduating from Ramsay High School in Mt Pleasant, Flo attended and graduated from nurses training in Mckees Rocks, Pennsylvania.  Upon getting married, she moved to Delaware and worked as a nurse at St Francis Hospital.

From the day she moved to Delaware, Flo was an active member of St Elizabeth Roman Catholic Church and assisted with parish carnivals, bake sales, card parties and Christmas bazaars.  Along with all of the St Elizabeth parish activities, she helped with many St Elizabeth grade school events.  She was a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the St Elizabeth Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality.

The profession Flo was most known for was childcare provider.  For 33 years Flo ran an in-home licensed daycare and provided before and after care to St Elizabeth grade school students.

Many of the kids literally grew up in her home as some attended from kindergarten through the eighth grade.  After all of the years, she could still name every one of her "kids" and was proud of all of their life accomplishments.  Quite a few people remember Flo walking to and from school with her dog and the daycare kids.  She loved dogs, especially golden retrievers.

Everyone knew that Flo was an avid sports fan and she attended many sporting events.  Whether it was Catholic Youth Sports, Junior Blue Hens, St E High School, University of Delaware, or even extremely late-night men's ice hockey games, she was there and ready to root on the team.  Although she still watched her original hometown Steelers, she became a fan of her local teams and never missed watching her Eagles, Phillies, Flyers and Sixers.  Needless to say, she took great enjoyment watching both grandkids play their many different sports.

No matter where she went, Flo had a knack of running into someone that she knew.  Conversations would be picked up as if she had just seen the person yesterday, even if it had been years.

Flo was predeceased by her husband, George Yezek (1998); brother, Marion (Bud) Brzezinski; and sister, Carol Brzezinski.  She is survived by her son, Christopher Yezek, his wife, Colleen, and her grandchildren, Matthew and Danielle, as well as her sister, Theresa Biller.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St Elizabeth's Church, 809 S Broom Street, Wilmington, Delaware on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at 10 am.  Internment following the mass will be in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, Delaware.

In lieu of flowers, Flo requested donations to be made to the St Elizabeth High School Field Hockey or the St Elizabeth High School Softball teams, 1500 Cedar St., Wilmington, DE 19805.
