Faye Mayhorn Hatfield, 92, of Wilmington, Delaware, peacefully passed away in the comfort of her home with family on Sunday, November 12, 2023. Born in Freeburn, Kentucky on December 15, 1930, she was the last surviving of fifteen children of the late Melvin Mayhorn and Elizabeth Eldridge Mayhorn.
Faye was a resident of the Forty Acres area of Wilmington for more than 60 years. She was employed with Highlands Elementary School for eighteen years and with Bancroft Mills for five years. A loving and devoted homemaker, she enjoyed caring for several of her grandchildren in her retirement years. Faye was a dedicated member of Cedars Church (currently Greenbank Church of Christ), enjoyed religious television shows and music, and was a fan of country music. She was a talented baker, and also enjoyed sewing and leisurely walks.
Her husband, Oscar Hatfield, passed away on May 24, 1984. In addition, she was predeceased by two grandchildren and a great grandchild.
Faye will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her children: David Hatfield (Jane), Diane Hatfield-Zencak (Raoul), Linda Blankenship (Joe), Kimberly Bolen and Danny Joe Hatfield; eight grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Saturday, November 18 from 9:00 – 10:30AM, with funeral services immediately following.
Further services will be held in West Virginia with interment in Mayhorn Cemetery in Freeburn, Kentucky.
