Ezio Vattilana Obituary

Ezio Vattilana, 77, of Wilmington, Delaware peacefully passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 surrounded by his loving family.  Born in Penna Sant’Andrea, Province of Teramo, Abruzzo, Italy on June 27, 1948, he was a son of the late Giuseppe and Anita (Romandini) Vattilana.

Upon immigrating to the United States in 1965, Ezio worked as a baker with the Schmidt Baking Company and DiFonzo’s Bakery.  He retired from the Chrysler Corporation, where he was employed as an assembly lineman, after 30 years of dedicated service. As a true family man, Ezio always placed their needs and wellbeing first.  He was very proud of his well manicured property, especially his beautiful vegetable garden, where he could always be found giving his nurturing care.  He also loved making his homemade Italian sauce, which was savored by family and friends alike.  A former member of the Giuseppe Verdi Lodge OSIA, Ezio currently enjoyed his membership with Italo-Americans United, having generously cooked for club functions.  He was also a faithful member of St. Joseph on the Brandywine Parish.

Ezio is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Maria Felicia (Capparuccini) Vattilana; his children, Francesco Antonio Vattilana (Elise Swift) and Daniella Marina Vattilana-Share (Ryan Share); his beloved granddaughters, all three of whom he adored: Jessica Marina, Alyssa Rose and Marissa Grace Share.  He is also survived by his brother, Vito Vattilana (Concetta, deceased); his sister, Vincenzina Fiasco (Gordiano, deceased); his sisters-in-law, Anna Vattilana and Ferdinanda “Faye” Oakes (Donald, deceased); his nephews, nieces and their families.

In addition to his parents, Ezio was predeceased by his brother, Luigi Vattilana; his parents-in-law, Francesco and Marina (Mauloni) Capparuccini.

Family and friends are invited to visit at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Church, 10 Old Church Road, Greenville on Monday, May 18 from 10:30 - 11:45AM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00PM, immediately followed by entombment in the True Faith Garden Crypt, Cathedral Cemetery, 2400 Lancaster Avenue, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ezio may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741. (www.cancer.org).
