Esther Mae (Sinex) Hooey

Esther Mae (Sinex) Hooey, 90, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 19, 2022.

She was born August 4, 1932 in Middletown, DE. She married her best friend and love of her life, Albert E. Hooey, on October 15, 1955. Esther worked for Delmarva Power for 38 years before retiring in 1987

Esther traveled with her husband to numerous countries over their 58-year marriage. She had a great love for animals and she very much enjoyed watching horse racing at Delaware Park.

Esther was preceded in death by her mother, Edna (Shahan) Sinex; her husband, Albert E. Hooey; her brother, Gilbert M. Sinex; her sisters, Ruth S. Collins and Virginia Mae Sinex.

Esther is survived by her nephews, Brian D. (Sally) Best and Glenn (Jeanne) Best; her niece, Barbara C. (Russell) Greene; and many great nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the wonderful angels at Harbor Chase, Vitas and Compassionate Care. And a special thank you to Esther’s neighbors and friends, Amber and Barbara.

A Celebration of Esther’s life will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2022 at Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Pike Creek, where family and friends may visit from 11:00AM-12:00PM. A service will begin at 12:00PM. Entombment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Esther's name to the Delaware Humane Association, 701 A St., Wilmington, DE 19801 or Compassionate Care Hospice, 111 Continental Dr., Suite 407, Newark, DE 19713.
