Ellis Kendle, MD Obituary

Ellis M. Kendle, MD, age 94, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2026, surrounded by family. He was born on February 13, 1932, in Angeles City, Philippines.

He was a proud graduate from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila in 1957 and dedicated his life to the practice of Internal Medicine. He proudly served his country in both the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Army, a commitment he held with great pride.

While completing his medical residency in Boston, Ellis met the love of his life, Ann, a nurse from Galway, Ireland. They shared more than 63 years of marriage, marked by deep devotion, partnership, and love.

Ellis is survived by his wife, Ann; his four children, Arlene (Ken), Diane (Odhrán), Brian (Leslee), and Albert (Christine); fifteen grandchildren—Wesley, Coleman, Katie, Benjamin, Briocán, Sibéal, Niadh, Róisín, Cameron, River, Piper, Hutton, Rory, Rylie, and Greer; and one great‑grandchild, Harper, each of whom brought him immense joy and pride.  He is also survived by his brothers Roy (Agnes) and Tom (Lori).

A man of profound faith, Ellis lived by the values of love, acceptance, respect, kindness, humor, and charity. He was known for his gentle nature, generosity of spirit, and unwavering commitment to faith, family, and country.

Throughout his career, Dr. Kendle received numerous awards for his lifelong dedication to serving others. He was named one of Delaware’s Top Doctors, served as President of PAAD, and devoted countless volunteer hours to caring for the sick in his community. He also volunteered his time on the USNS Mercy, helping the impoverished. His generosity extended well beyond medicine, as he freely gave his time, knowledge, and resources in service to others.
