Elizabeth “Bett” Malgieri, age 70, of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully at home on July 12, 2025 surrounded by the love of her friends and family. Born on April 30, 1955 she was the loving daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Malgieri.
She is survived by her two sons, Charlie Hernandez and Michael Alfero (Dasha); her eight grandchildren: Cole Hernandez, Cameron Hernandez, Giavanna Hernandez, Charlie Hernandez Jr., Domenic Hernandez, Javier Alfero, Michael Alfero Jr., Lycette Alfero; her sisters: Barbara Malgieri Winnington (Steve), Jo Ann Malgieri Fenner (Morrison), Annette Malgieri D’Angelo (Joseph); her nieces and nephews: Matthew Winnington (Lauren), Brian Winnington (Amanda), Lee Martinez Furness (Bett’s goddaughter), Emma Skillman Tuttle (Michael), David Skillman (Daysi), Joseph D’Angelo III (Michelle), Vincent D’Angelo (Cynthia), Anthony D’Angelo (Emily), and Domenic D’Angelo (Agostina).
Bett's legacy is a powerful reminder of the impact one person can have. With a Master's Degree in Social Work from Loyola University, she built a career around serving others as a social worker and case manager for Child Protective Services, Division of Family Services Treatment, and as a Case Worker for Delaware State Drug, Alcohol and Mental Health. Moreover, she was a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor. Bett's selfless devotion to fostering Charlie and Michael was acknowledged by the Diocese of Wilmington. She drew strength from the children and family retreats at the Jesus House Prayer and Renewal Center and was deeply connected to the Benedictine Community and the Catholic Charismatic Renewal.
She enjoyed camping in the Poconos and Cape Cod with her lifelong close friend Loraine Okie. Together they took trips to Pecos, New Mexico to gain spiritual knowledge and connection. Bett's love of music was showcased through her guitar playing at Resurrection Parish. She had a special appreciation for the music of Josh Groban and David Phelps and enjoyed live concerts.
Her boundless compassion touched the lives of all beings, including her beloved pets Joel and Jeshua.
Ultimately, Bett's life stood as a shining example of her deep love for the Lord and her lifelong commitment to service.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM on August 20, 2025 at Resurrection Parish 3000 Videre Dr., Wilmington, DE 19808 Interment will be private.
