Elizabeth (Rowe) Hart was born September 5, 1930 in Wilmington Delaware and passed away on March 31, 2026 at the age of 95 in Ponte Vedra, Florida. She is survived by her three children: Mary Kate, Peter (wife Rita) and John (wife Trish); and her grandchildren, Jack and Kathryn.
Elizabeth wed Thomas Richard Hart on April 11, 1957 and they were married until his passing on March 30, 2015. Elizabeth had a lifelong pursuit of learning, which she instilled in her children. Later in life she attended West Chester University and graduated with a degree in English and a minor in Philosophy at the age of 65. She continued to order and read books through this year.
Her ancestors emigrated to the Brandywine River area in Wilmington and several generations, including Elizabeth, worked for the DuPont Company. She volunteered at Hagley Museum for some time and would also take her children to Winterthur so they knew their ancestry.
She was an avid gardener, loving to compose mini landscapes within the yard, planning them so they burst into color in stages so they provided interest throughout the seasons. Her grown children looked forward to walking the yard with her when they visited, to witness her latest designs. She continued gardening into her 90’s in Florida.
She had a strong faith and faithfully said the rosary first thing in the morning for her family, friends and others she knew were going through difficult times. A traditional Latin Mass will be said for her at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 13, 2026 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Wilmington, Delaware with interment following in St. Joseph’s on the Brandywine Cemetery in Wilmington, Delaware.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory at Hagley Museum, https://www.hagley.org/donate, PO Box 3630, Wilmington, DE 19807-0630.
