Eleanor Stone Obituary

Eleanor A. (Castelli) Stone, 90, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. Born in Wilmington on November 6, 1934, she was the beloved daughter of the late Domenick and Anna Claire (Frederick) Castelli. Eleanor dedicated her career to serving as a bookkeeper, first with the Oblates of St. Francis deSales and later with Tomm’s Produce.

A devoted member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, she actively participated in many parish activities throughout her life. Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Clyde J. Stone, who passed away on December 15, 2003, and her great grandson, Kevin Love, who sadly left us on December 25, 2022.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Barbara Love Tambourelli; her son, Tomm Stone and wife, Donna; her cherished grandchildren, Rebecca Richmond (Dan), Kristina Stuckert (Ryan), Jeremiah Stone (Emily), Jonathan Stone (Brian Biasini), and Jesse Stone; and her great grandchildren, Ben and Eliza Richmond, Alice, Oliver, and Eleanor Stone.

Eleanor also leaves behind numerous loving nieces, nephews, and their families. Eleanor was predeceased by her brothers, Rudy Castelli and Joseph Castelli; as well as her sisters, Lena Serio, Rose Nally, Laura Pronio, Susan Deery, and Mary Grant.

Throughout her life, Eleanor embraced an active lifestyle. She loved traveling with family and friends and was a member of the Fraim Center for Active Adults for over 30 years, where she enjoyed exercising, playing pinochle, and Wii bowling.

After undergoing open-heart surgery twice, she generously volunteered with the Mended Hearts group at Christiana Care for more than 20 years. Her faith and family were at the core of her life, and one of her greatest joys was spending time with her great grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Tuesday, June 3, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 9th & DuPont Streets, Wilmington on Wednesday, June 4, at 10:30 AM, immediately followed by entombment at Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington.
