Elaine (Biondi) Baccino, age 74, from Hockessin, DE, passed away on June 23, 2017 at her home surrounded by family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in West Chester, PA but grew up in Kennett Square, PA, Elaine graduated from Kennett High School in 1961 where she participated in the marching band. She also completed business classes at Goldey Beacom College.

Elaine retired from Agilent Technologies in 2014 after a 50 year career in the development and marketing of analytical systems.  During this time, she also worked for Hewlett Packard, Chemical Data Systems, and F&M Scientific.  Elaine’s career required her to travel the nation and world, which she thoroughly enjoyed.  On one of her business trips, she became a born-again Christian and her religion became a guiding principle in her life.  As a member of St. Mary of the Assumption, she was a lector, Eucharistic minister and co-coordinator of the Lazarus Committee.  She also volunteered for Delaware Hospice.

Elaine dedicated her life to her family and friends and adored her grandchildren.  She was married to her husband, Richard, for 54 years where they grew up on the same street.  She was a fixture at her grandchildren’s sporting events and could be heard cheering loudly from the stands or sidelines.  She continued her enjoyment of travel to the Delaware beaches, Florida, Italy, and Hilton Head Island.  She was most at peace on a beach listening to the ocean waves.  She was also an excellent cook of Italian food, loved going out to dinner, listening to Frank Sinatra, watching the Phillies and Flyers, and reading.

Elaine was preceded in death by her brother, John “Knobby” Biondi, her parents, Paul and Mary Biondi and her daughter in-law, Kimberly (Stoops) Baccino.  She is survived by her husband, Richard, her son Steve and his children, Tyler, Ryan and Alexis.  In addition, she is survived by her brother, Robert Biondi and her sister in-law, Rosemary Biondi and Janet Baccino.

The family would like to thank the hundreds of people who faithfully prayed for Elaine and to all those who managed Elaine’s care at the Helen Graham Center and Delaware Hospice.  The family would like to convey a very special thanks to her neighbor of 47 years, Darleen Fraim, her cousin, Lorraine Maddalozzo and her sister in-law, Rosemary who all cared for her during her last days.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, June 28 at 11:15am at St. Mary of the Assumption, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, where friends may visit with the family from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.  Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. Mary of the Assumption Building Maintenance Fund.
