Elaine G. Woerner, 80, of Cape May, NJ, formerly of Hockessin, DE, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on April 2, 2026. Born on October 18, 1945, Elaine lived a full and vibrant life defined by dedication to her family, her profession, and her community.
Elaine graduated from J.W. Cooper High School in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania, in 1963. She continued her education at Goldey-Beacom College, earning a degree in Executive Secretarial Studies in April 1965. She began her career as a paralegal for attorney Howard Berg in Wilmington, Delaware, where she worked from 1965 to 1970.
In 1972, Elaine obtained her real estate license and began what would become a long and distinguished career. She worked with Tom Livizo’s Realtors until 1983 before joining B. Gary Scott Realtors. Through its many transitions—Prudential Preferred Properties, Prudential Fox & Roach, and ultimately Berkshire Hathaway Realtors—Elaine remained a respected and dedicated professional until her retirement in 2023.
Elaine was a trailblazer in her field. In 1984, she became the first female President of the New Castle County Board of REALTORS. She was a frequent monitor for the Delaware Association of Realtors conventions, served on the Education Committee of the Delaware Real Estate Commission in 2017, and was inducted into the Realtor Hall of Fame. In recognition of her integrity and professionalism, she was honored with the NCCBOR Mel Stout Ethics Award in 2012.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Elaine’s greatest joy came from her family. She cherished time spent with her beloved husband of 46 years, John A. Woerner, especially during their days in Cape May. She also loved traveling, shopping for the best bargains, and, most of all, being a devoted grandmother.
Elaine was the proud mother of Jonathan P. Woerner, who was notably the first in-vitro baby born in Delaware. Jonathan and his wife, Amy, whom he married in 2016, brought Elaine immense happiness as the proud grandmother of Maeve, Paul, and Phoebe Woerner.
Elaine is predeceased by her parents, Peter C. Golamis and Doris Starr Golamis, and her brothers-in-law, Joseph Deramo and Robert Ferguson. She is survived by her loving husband, John A. Woerner; her son, Jonathan P. Woerner (Amy); her three cherished grandchildren; her brothers, Peter J. Golamis of Rio Grande, NJ, and Gary Golamis of Pottsville, PA; her sisters, Doreen Deramo of Rehoboth, DE, and Sharon Ferguson of Newark, DE; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Doherty Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 10, 2026 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE. Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, 1516 Ashland Clinton School Road, Hockessin, DE.
