Elaine J. (Lebo) Lewis, 71, of Newark, Delaware peacefully passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2025. Born in Chester, Pennsylvania on February 18, 1954, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Emma Jean (Cain) Lebo.
Elaine was a graduate of Claymont High School and the University of Delaware, and earned her master’s degree from Wilmington University. She truly cherished her career as an elementary school teacher at Bancroft and Maclary in the Christina School District until her retirement in 2015 following 25 years of dedicated service. Elaine loved children and was always happiest in their presence. In her leisure time, she enjoyed reading and traveling, with cruises being a favorite.
Elaine is survived by her husband of 50 years, Alan R. Lewis; her best friend and devoted caregiver, Mabel Barclay; her children, Michael Lewis (Amber), Jennifer Sheets (Travis) and Philip Lewis (Michelle); her beloved grandchildren, Claire and Lily Sheets, Benny and Sammy Lewis. She is also survived by her brother, Albert Lebo, Jr.
Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Saturday, October 4 from 9:30 – 10:30AM, with funeral services immediately following. Interment will take place privately at Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery, Newark.
