Eileen Doherty Obituary

It is with deep sadness that the family of Eileen Doherty announces her passing. Born in Wilmington, Delaware, she was a lifelong Delawarean who called many of the state's beloved communities home — from Canby Park and Elsmere to Christiana and, most recently, Middletown.

She built a distinguished career as a legal secretary, lending her talents and professionalism to several firms before proudly finishing her career at DuPont, where her dedication and warmth left a lasting impression on all who worked alongside her.

She was predeceased by the great love of her life, her husband Jim, with whom she shared 56 remarkable years of marriage. She was also predeceased by her parents, Patrick & Genevieve; her sister, Kathleen; her brother, Patrick (Bud); and her brother-in-law, John Tomczak.

She is survived by her loving children, Jim & Amy Doherty of Dewey Beach, Jeff & Krista Doherty of Claymont, and Kate & Larry Snyder of Elsmere. She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Nicole Doherty (Sam Chowdhury), Alex Doherty, and Owen Doherty. She is also survived by her lifelong best friend and beloved sister, Rene Tomczak and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She had a gift for living fully and loving generously. She cherished her holidays surrounded by family, savored lazy days at the beach, and treasured the cruises she took with Jim — adventures that became some of her most treasured memories. Few things brought her as much joy as sitting down for a card game, especially alongside her husband, her sister, and her brother-in-law.

Those who knew her will remember her above all for her extraordinary kindness and her rare ability to make anyone feel at ease. She could strike up a conversation with a stranger and walk away with a friend — a gift she carried with her everywhere she went, leaving a piece of herself in every room she entered.

She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
