Edward J. (Pa) Abbott, Jr.

Edward J. (Pa) Abbott, Jr., age 78, passed away on Saturday, March 29. 2025. He was born in Wilmington, DE on April 11, 1946 to the late Edward J. Abbott, Sr. and Edith M. (Golt) Abbott.

Ed was a proud Vietnam Veteran serving in the United States Air Force. He went on to become a maintenance mechanic with Formosa Plastics, retiring in 2008 after 39 years. In his spare time, Ed enjoyed astronomy, aviation, nature photography, model trains and his koi fish pond.  He was also an avid Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles fan. Most especially, Ed will be remembered for his love of family and all the time he was able to spend with them. The summer trips to Cape May, NJ year after year, and never missing his grandchildrens’ sporting events and other activities. “Pa”, as he was affectionately known by his grandchildren, will be missed by all his family and friends. 

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Kathleen K. (DeMasi) Abbott; son Edward J. Abbott III and his wife Michele of Wilmington, DE and daughter Jennifer K. Bellamy and her husband Curtis of Wilmington, DE. Ed is also survived by his granddaughters Marissa, her partner Jason, Chelsea and Mia; grandsons Anthony, Dylan, Teddy, Chase and Bryce; brother John Abbott and his wife Suzanne of Newark, DE; brother-in-law David DeMasi and his wife Rose of Wilmington, DE; along with numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his late parents, Ed was preceded in death by his brothers Joseph and Tom Abbott and sister Barbara Abbott, his brother and sister-in-law Jesse and Bernice Calloway.

Family and friends are invited to visit the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808 on Friday, April 4, 2025, from 11:00AM to 12:00PM, with funeral services beginning at 12:00PM.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in memory of Edward to the Michael J.
