Edward Hedrick Obituary

Edward S. Hedrick, lovingly known as Eddie, age 81, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 29, 2021 with his loving family by his side.

Born in Wilmington, DE, Eddie was the son of the late John A. and Helen T. (Romanski) Hedrick. He graduated from Wilmington High School Class of 1957, where he was an athlete. After graduating, Eddie proudly joined the Air Force. Before retiring, he was a journeyman electrician with IBEW Local # 313 for 41 years. Eddie and his wife, JoAnn, were longtime parishioners of Resurrection Parish, where he volunteered at Emmanuel Dining Room and assisted with the church offerings. He was a member of the local American Legion and VFW Posts.

In earlier years, Eddie enjoyed playing softball with Local # 313 and volleyball at the Wilmington Turners Club. He enjoyed walking and bicycling and he had participated in Bike to the Bay to support MS for many years. In his leisure time, Eddie loved going on cruises with his wife, as well as playing bingo at Delaware Park. Eddie will be remembered as the most gentle man you would ever meet.

Eddie is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, JoAnn M. (Ponti) Hedrick; his children, Ron Hedrick (Dianne), Bert Hedrick, Tina Mahler (Wes) and Dr. Cathy Jellenik (Glenn); his grandchildren, John Hedrick (Kristy), Zachary Mahler, Heather Hedrick, Joshua Mahler, Nicholas Mahler, Nathaniel Jellenik, Isaiah Jellenik, and Troy Hedrick; his great-grandchild, Hudson Hedrick; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Benjamin Sowinski; and his half-sister, Edith Bachman.
