Dr. Henry Karl Seiler

Dr. Henry Karl Seiler, age 79, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, January 8, 2021 with his loving family by his side.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, Henry was the son of the late Henry and Hildegard (Wurster) Seiler. He graduated from St. John's University with a Bachelor's Degree and from University of Connecticut with a Master's Degree and a Doctorate Degree. For over 35 years, Henry was a chemist at DuPont Company before retiring. During his time at DuPont, Henry and his family lived overseas in Germany for several years, where they were able to explore their German family roots and culture. After retiring, he enjoyed volunteering at Ashland Nature Center and Delaware Hospice.

Henry had many passions. He was an accomplished photographer, who enjoyed taking photographs throughout his extensive traveling all over the world with his wife, Maureen. Henry was an avid golfer and reader. He also enjoyed sailing. Henry was devoted to his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. 

Throughout his life, Henry overcame any obstacle that came his way whether it was through health battles or learning to cook and do laundry after his wife passed away. Henry also continued to challenge himself and his personal development through the Landmark Worldwide. His faith journey was also very important to him. While having wrestled to understand and figure God out intellectually and religiously- he finally found a relationship in knowing Jesus Christ as his personal savior.

Henry was predeceased by his beloved wife of 49 years, Maureen Rose (McMahon) Seiler and his parents. He is survived by his sons, Andrew Seiler and his wife, Patricia, Stephen Seiler, and Jonathan Seiler and his wife, Sarah; his grandchildren, Julia, Ella, Lila, and Charlotte Seiler; his sister, Susan Benson and her husband, Jim; and his nephew, Gregory Benson.

Family and friends may visit from 1:00 to 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 23 at Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808, where a Celebration of Henry's Life will begin at 2 PM. Interment will be private.
