Dr. Floro M. Resurreccion, M.D.

Dr. Floro M. Resurreccion, M.D. passed away peacefully to join the Good Lord on the morning of his 86th birthday, Friday, January 21, 2022.

Floro was born on January 21, 1936 in Laguna, Philippines to Urbana Malabago and Pedro Resurreccion, Sr. He was the youngest of six and emerged out of great poverty, earning a full scholarship to college and then medical school at the University of the Philippines. In July 1963, Floro arrived in the United States and became a Gastroenterologist. Floro was reunited in the States with the love of his life, Nilda Soberano, and they married in September 1964 in Philadelphia, PA. He continued his career doing a residency in Brooklyn, New York and then returned to be one of the founding doctors of the first GI Lab in Wilmington, Delaware, where he eventually established his residence and private practice of over 20 years. Upon retirement, Floro and Nilda relocated to a community in Kennett Square, PA.

Despite his impressive career, his greatest accomplishment was not his legacy as a doctor; it was being the devoted and true patriarch of his family. Floro had an insatiable appetite for reading, loved fishing, golf, great food and was an avid sports fan, especially of the Philadelphia Eagles. He had a passion for American history, movies and most of all, his grandchildren. Floro was patient, loyal, honest, loving and a man of great integrity. His intellectual brilliance was matched with a genuine care to help all people. He was loved by all who knew him for his sweetness, dry sense of humor, gentle demeanor and grace—for one of his mottos was “to cure sometimes, to relieve often (and) to comfort always.” (Edward Trudeau)

Floro will be missed dearly by his sister, Juana Hean, his four children and eleven grandchildren: David, Dylan and Grace; Donna Sivick (Joe), Sabrina, Troy and Gregory; Doris Kerr (Scott), Isabella, Jackson, and Ava; Debra Marco (Rob), David, Monica and Christopher. Floro was predeceased by his parents, his dear wife, Nilda, and his siblings, Romeo, Lydia, Pedro Jr. and Mario.

Friends are invited to visit on Thursday, January 27, 2022, at St. John the Beloved, 907 Milltown Rd., Wilmington, DE from 10-11:30am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 12pm. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery.
