Dorothy DiFilippo Olszewski, 95, of Wilmington, Delaware peacefully passed away on Saturday, January 31, 2026. Born in Wilmington on November 16, 1930, Dottie, as she was affectionately known by many, was the only child of the late Michael and Ottavia (Denicola) DiFilippo.
Dottie was employed with the Wilmington Trust Company, having retired in 1993 after 45 years of dedicated service. She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Parish. Dottie also enjoyed membership at Oak Grove and Absalom Jones Senior Center and was an avid Philadelphia Eagles and 76rs fan, faithfully watching all their games. She had a love for dogs and always looked forward to family and friends bringing them to visit her. Dottie was proud to have volunteered with former President Joe Biden's early senatorial campaigns, and remained steadfast in her support for him throughout his political career. Her husband of 40 years, Frank J. Olszewski, passed away on January 18, 1994.
Blessed with a host of special family members and friends, Dorothy was very thankful for her cousins, Carol, JoAnne and Daniele, as well as her niece, Sharon in Texas, for always keeping in touch with her. Dottie also enjoyed the company of her church friends, Barbara, Valerie, and Michelle, and very much appreciated the daily phone calls from them, Juanita and Sharon, her favorite roommate, as well as Florence for her potato salad and baked goods and long-time friend, Dolly. Dorothy was also very thankful for her very close friends, Chris and Jim McLane, who later assisted with caring for her, as well as her caregiver, Tanisha Pope for being there for her whenever she needed anything.
Family and friends are invited to visit at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 9th and DuPont Streets, Wilmington on Wednesday, February 11 from 9:30 – 10:15AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30AM, followed by entombment at Cathedral Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dorothy may be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor, 185 Salem Church Road, Newark, DE 19713 or the Oblates of St. Francis DeSales Retirement Fund, PO Box 87, Childs, MD 21916-0087.
