Dorothy Alexsandra "Sandy" Embert

Dorothy Alexsandra “Sandy” Embert, age 81, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2025, just days before her 82nd birthday.

Born in Philadelphia, PA in 1943, Sandy later moved to Delaware, where she spent the majority of her life. She attended St. Elizabeth Grade School and graduated from P.S. DuPont High School. Throughout her career, Sandy worked in administrative roles at Monsanto on Concord Pike and later at General Motors on Boxwood Road.

Sandy was known for her kind heart and generous spirit. To know her was to experience warmth, patience, and unconditional love. Described by her family as loving, selfless, and friendly, Sandy was someone who always put others before herself and had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and heard.

A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Sandy is survived by her beloved husband, Gary J. Embert; her children, Christopher F. Embert (Sara), John D. Embert, and Lisa M. McCarthy (James); her step-son, David McKie; and her cherished grandchildren, Monica, Olivia, & James Embert, and Gavin, Mason, Foster, & Madison McCarthy.

Sandy found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She was an avid fan of NCIS, Criminal Minds, and the Food Network. She loved puzzles—crosswords and word finds alike—and was a passionate reader. In recent years, Sandy developed a deep love for baseball and became a devoted fan of the Philadelphia Phillies. She rarely missed a game and especially loved watching her favorite player, Alec Bohm, cheerfully rooting for him every chance she got.

Her faith was an important part of her life, a devotion that was inspired and nurtured by her late uncle, Fr. Joseph A. Travers, O.S.F.S, who preceded her in death.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Monday, September 8, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place at All Saints Cemetery.
