Doris M. Forshey

Doris M. Forshey, age 101, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2021 with her loving family by her side.

Born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, Doris graduated from Grove City College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, as well as from the University of Delaware with a Master’s Plus Degree in Education. After graduating, she enjoyed raising her children while also working as a substitute teacher. For over 25 years, Doris was a first grade schoolteacher at Castle Hills Elementary School in the Colonial School District before retiring. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, a professional society for women educators.

Doris loved flower gardening. She enjoyed taking day trips and extensive international travel. Doris also loved spending time at the Jersey shore in Ocean City, NJ.

Doris is survived by her sons, William O. Forshey, III and his wife, Lou of Canandaigua, NY and James R. Forshey and his wife, Marilyn of Newark, DE; her six grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Doris’ Life will be held at 11:00 AM on October 11 at Hope Lutheran Church, 230 Christiana Rd., New Castle, DE 19720, where family and friends may visit beginning at 10:30 AM. Guests are required to wear masks while in church. Interment will follow at New Castle Presbyterian Church Memorial Garden.
