Doris A. (Stevenson) Bartkowski

Doris A. Bartkowski, age 68, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Saturday, October 1st, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Chester, PA, daughter of the late Richard and Sara (Heacock) Stevenson.

In addition to raising her own children, her focus was caring for others. She began working with children in daycare but eventually found her calling in nursing homes. Doris worked as the activities coordinator at Pembrooke Nursing Home in West Chester, PA.

Doris had an affinity for owls and was an avid collector of anything owl-themed. She enjoyed taking trips to Lake Garrison in New Jersey; White Crystal Beach on the Elk River; Ocean City, MD; and going to air shows followed by a stop at Geet’s Diner. Doris also had a soft spot in her heart for pets, especially dogs.

She is survived by her children, Stephanie Lewis, and Michael Bartkowski (Jaime); her grandchildren, DJ and Sarah Lewis, and Carter and Lucy Bartkowski; her great-grandchildren, Christian, Jameson, Leo, Rowan, and Dominic; and her sisters, Jane Marston (Ed), Helen Klingerman, and Jennifer Stevenson; as well as several nieces, nephews, and members of her extended family.

In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leonard Bartkowski, Jr.

A remembrance service will be celebrated at 11:00am on Monday, October 10, 2022, at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808, where family and friends may visit beginning at 10:00am. Interment will be held privately in Lawncroft Cemetery.
